The fight against smoking continues

Domestic going to establish a complete ban on advertising of cigarettes and increase the excise tax on tobacco products. To date, not to advertise cigarettes on television, radio and external media, but from next year will prohibit its placement in the print media. Under the new bill aimed at combating smoking, tobacco advertising would be banned completely, including in supermarkets and in the form of sponsorship.

Another project of the Government proposed to Parliament, provides for the increase in excise tax on cigarettes from 20 to 36 percent. If adopted, the price of a pack of cigarettes will rise by an average of 1.5-3 grn.

Previous raising the excise tax was held in May this year and led to a rise in third, at 1.5-2 grn. Tobacco manufacturers believe that such measures are in place anti-smoking help to increase the share of illegal tobacco market.

In 2009 - 2012 year in Ukraine adopted a state program aimed at combating smoking and reducing its harmful effects on human health. In 2010, plans to open a telephone line available for those wishing to get rid of harmful habits, and started a serious campaign to combat smoking.

According to the Kiev International Institute of Sociology, tobacco control measures effective enough: if the fall of last year the number of smokers was 35 percent, then the spring of this year, this figure fell by 4 percent.
